This is my food journal. I pack "bento" lunches for work. I guess technically they'd be bento dinners because that's what I mostly eat them for.
The bentos in this journal aren't specifically Japanese; in fact, these are going to be primarily "American" - although I'm hesitant to say that because American food is so diverse! - bento because I use leftovers.
My bentos try to use leftovers or whatever is around the kitchen as much as possible. I do not go out of my way to find new foods unless I've been dying to try something.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not against trying new, exotic foods. It just isn't practical for me to cook a new meal everyday because I'd be cooking for one and with family around who would eat something completely different from me every night, it's just not very reasonable. Also, I'm a busy student and retail worker with a less than steady schedule. It's also a good way of cleaning out our fridge. :D
I try to "make over" my leftovers a little bit for each meal, or create something new out of something plain.
I appreciate comments and ideas. I'm new to bento so all ideas are good ideas!
